    Air Conditioners

2021 has shown us one of the hottest summers yet, and with no indication of slowing down! Homeowners from Everett to Kent are feeling the heat, and those of you out in Chelan and surrounding areas have been hit especially hard with it. We are seeing an increase in demand for new Air Conditioning systems, and homeowners realizing their AC unit isn’t functioning as well as it used to be. In fact, about a third of all U.S. homes lack air conditioners. So let’s talk about it.

    Understanding Your Home’s Air Conditioning

There are two types of air conditioning: Central Air and Split Systems. In central air conditioning warm air is drawn out, leaving the cold air behind, much like your refrigerator does. Split systems are a little more complicated, circulating liquid refrigerant through a coil or cooling compartment, and then vaporizing to be distributed throughout the house as cool air. Both systems do a good job of keeping your home cool, but require maintenance and care to do the job well.

    Maintaining Your Home’s Air Conditioning

Your Air Conditioning unit needs regular maintenance to function properly. If you haven’t used it in a while it’s especially important to inspect its current condition. You should be inspecting and servicing your air conditioning’s filters, coils, and fins each year. Filters are perhaps the most urgent priority. Filters collect pollutants and become dirty over time. It’s their job! However, the dirtier they become, the more they restrict airflow throughout your home. Replacing a dirty filter can reduce air consumption by as much as 15%. We recommend changing it each year. The coils and fins can also collect dirt or become bent with time. We recommend having these professionally inspected and, if needed, repaired. Taking the time to inspect and care for your air conditioner’s components can keep your system operating well for years to come!

When to Replace Your Air Conditioning Unit

If you’re among the third of American households without air conditioning, there has never been a better year to have one installed! If your AC unit is out of date or nearing the end of its life cycle, it might be time to consider a new one. Did you know that high-efficiency air conditioners can reduce your energy use by as much as 50%? We recommend Trane and Lennox. By installing a new AC system, not only can you keep your house cooler this hot summer, but you can actually keep your energy consumption down which means lower energy bills, and a happier environment!
